More reading – nice ranty sermon for you

Change “missionary” to “parent”, and this is the rant that has me writing the homeschooling book.

To customize, insert “teacher”, “DRE” “Pastor” or “___your name here____”.

I would add, this is the kind of judging others we should be wary of.  It’s easy to know whether one ought to steal or murder (no).  Not so easy to know what I should do today, and what prayers to pray, and how to explain to the children they really must learn math. Really.  And handwriting.  And not punching people.  Except sometimes.

Oh wait.  Divine Mercy.  Scratch that punching thing.  Oops.

Or not.  Legitimate self-defense only, I promise.

  1. “And not punching people.”

Hey, “not punching” is a key concept in my catechism class abortion discussion:

“The whole idea of being able to choose doesn’t mean anything if no choice is going to be made. I can choose to punch myself in the nose…am I ever going to? Ha! NO!

“And if I choose to not punch myself in the nose, am I really choosing anything?

No, it only matters if you pick the other thing.”

  2. On my list of things that I have in my head and can’t get into paper is an O’Connor esque short story about a Middle Aged, Middle Class, Democrat, Cultural Catholic woman who goes around preaching “tolerance” and “judge not lest ye be judged” on homosexuality, abortion, divorce, etc., and then the topic comes up of the family of a nephew/niece/son or daughter in law, or whatever, who homeschool, have a messy house, and don’t dress fashionably, and she totally lays into them and their bad choices, etc.
