That’s me in the photo, sitting on my porch and reading, which is the usual way that people get to see me. I’m Jennifer Fitz, married to the SuperHusband, and homeschooling housewife to our boy and three girls: Mr. Boy (spring ‘00), Aria (“R.E. uh”) (winter ‘02), the Bun (spring ‘04) and Squeaky (summer ‘06), who is lately going by the name Andabelle. Why am I wearing an apron in the photo? Because I have four young children. It’s a sticky sort of life.
Aside from being a housewife . . .
In undergraduate I studied international relations and economics, and wrote my senior thesis on the GATT negotiations. (“The French Policy in the GATT Negotiations on the Cultural Exception”). I also spent a year during that time studying at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (“Sciences Po”) in Paris. My master’s degree is in business; I did my electives in accounting and finance — my favorite class was accounting theory.
After graduating I worked as a cost accountant in the computer-manufacturing industry. I’ve also done various odd jobs over the years, some skilled, some unskilled, in retail, the service-industries, state government, and the non-profit sector.
Why this blog, why these topics?
I blog because I like to write. I spun this blog off from my homeschooling blog last summer, and the two still tend to intertwine. I’m working on it. But here, for now I’m leaning strongly into economics, history and social issues. Economics, financial, and political topics are pretty obvious given my resume. Social issues? Well, I’m a person, and an opinionated one. Plus what with being catholic, we tend to think about that stuff. History? It informs the others. And then there’s the part about how I’ve always loved it.
So that’s a start — me, as it relates to the topics on this blog. Enjoy.
